Those of you who have been following our site for a longer while might be familiar with LSPDFR. We’ve covered the development of the biggest and most ambitious total-conversion mod for GTA V extensively over the months. However, recently the site was pretty quiet and we’ve heard nothing in terms of news regarding the development of the mod. The official news posts on the website, of which a new one should appear weekly at least, have ceased as of the 16th of February.
But what happened to LSPDFR? The mod has encountered its share of difficulties in the past, however all of those were documented by the dev team and only slowed down development. The first of the major problems hit when Rockstar released the 1.28 patch for GTA Online. Alongside the second part of the Ill-Gotten Gains update, the patch also contained Rockstar’s new anti-hacking measure.
That measure turned out to be a bit of a scorched-earth tactic that worked too well. Not only did it axe Online hacking, but it killed single-player mods as well and also broke the game almost entirely. The method relied on filling up the game-files with dead-code, making it nearly impossible for third-party scripts to be pointed to the right file.
This also jumbled official game files, killing performance. LSPDFR’s development was slowed significantly, however they persevered and soon released the biggest update the mod ever saw. The second issue didn’t impede the development of the mod itself, but it did cripple the site with a DDoS attack – which was swiftly cleared up.
The most recent GTA Online update didn’t kill mods and the LSPDFR site is still up and active as far as users are concerned. The recent fix Rockstar implemented to counter the Insurance Fraud hack only disabled the Bad Sport and Insurance Premium systems, so that doesn’t affect mods either.
So what is going on with the dev team? It would be a plausible theory that they’re so focused on development that they’re simply not bothering with news updates. This is unlikely however, as they have a guy on the team whose job is specifically updating the news section of the site.
Either the mod is nearing a critical stage in development and Prophet, the above mentioned community manager has been pulled into development tasks, or something is amiss with the mod. We sincerely hope it’s the first scenario.
Do any of you guys play LSPDFR, or do you stick to vanilla GTA V?
