If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard about the multiplayer component of Grand Theft Auto V – GTA Online – then read this post and watch the trailer below.
GTA Online is, quite simply, going to be bigger than any of us can realize or even imagine, and Rockstar has said they will be continuously adding to it as well. Given that the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 are coming to the end of their lifecycles, would it make sense for Rockstar to be doing all this additional work on making GTA Online bigger and better on old consoles years in the future? No.
CVG recently asked Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies about taking GTA Online to the next generation of consoles and got the following response:
There are very few games like Grand Theft Auto Online – so we’ll play it by ear and see what the consumers want… We’ll get the current-gen versions out first and see what happens in the future.
So while Benzies doesn’t come right out and say we can expect GTA Online on PS4 and Xbox One, it’s a pretty good bet. This is particularly so if they truly “see what consumers want”, and in fact we could expect to see it on PC as well if that is the case… That GTA 5 on PC petition is still trucking along!
Anyway it’s fairly clear, we think, that Rockstar has plans to take not only GTA Online but also GTA V next-gen, we just need to wait for official confirmation.
