Oh, blimp, we love you so. But what are you? A mere inflated rubber oval with a tiny cage strapped to the bottom, so we mere humans may ascend to the clouds? Or are you just another surface onto which adverts may be placed? What about being a large, poorly manoeuvrable air vehicle which is so inefficient or effective that its continued existence is attributed to novelty and novelty alone?
Then again, blimps could be a nice little addition to the expansive beast of a game that GTA V is, intended to keep the player entertained for another five minutes…
Let me tell you dear readers, the GTA V blimp is a prophet. A snippet of the massive potential GTA V has for modding.
“But wait, isn’t there already a massive, thriving modding community around GTA V?” – many of you undoubtedly ask.
But the blimp, oh the blimp. Quite recently, we’ve reported on not one but two absolutely bat-crazy awesome mods which replace the blimp with a big evil spaceship sans lasers. Two of these mods came out in relatively quick succession, but that is pretty much it. Two blimp mods. Any other blimp mod out there is just a skin.
The Reaper and Imperial Star Destroyer mods showed the world what kind of potential lies in the blimp. We could see all kinds of spacecraft recreated in GTA V using the blimp as a base. Provided someone puts together a detailed enough model with proper collision detection, we could put an entire floating city up there. We could replace the blimp with other blimps, not just reskins of the same blimp. We could exchange the blimp for a hot air balloon. We could replace the blimp with a dragon, or Mothra, or a jellyfish, or the giant disembodied head of Patrick Stewart. The possibilities are endless!
Do you too see the great potential of GTA V’s blimp?
