Yeah, you read that right. NotGTAV is, well, not GTA V. What it is however, is a blessedly simple game which features David Cameron and all of the profits of the game go towards charity. The game, that loves reminding you that it isn’t GTA V, plays nothing like GTA V, which should comes as no surprise, considering it isn’t GTA V. Crazy, right?
The developer, called Not Games (surprising, again right?) is adamant in their stance that their parody game has nothing to do with Rockstar’s blockbuster open-world crime game. They are trying really, really hard to avoid a lawsuit.
This game is a parody.
It is definitely, positively and (hopefully) legally, not the game Grand Theft Auto Five.
Sure, it’s called NotGTAV, but those letters stand for Great Traffic Adventure and the V is silent. Like the one in “lawsuit” (which, you’ll notice, is also invisible).
This short tour of the glories of the UK’s M4 corridor is easy to play, hard to master, addictive, very funny, and cheap.
100% of the profits from this game go to young people’s charity Peer Productions. Without Peer Productions the NotGames team would never have met. By buying this game you can help us pay something back.
NotGTAV plays just like Snake did way back on the older Nokia devices, and has you wreak crudely-drawn havoc in three ostensibly British locales. One of the missions is particularly laden in a political sense, as it features an illuminati-shape-shifting-lizard-man-David-Cameron having a bit of “fun” with a few public sector workers. At least the lack of fear from controversy ties the two games together.
The game was released on Steam on the 2nd of July, going for a total of 74 cents, and has been at the top of the best selling new releases ever since. While obviously a direct parody of GTA V (or not?) the game also makes jabs at other AAA properties, such as referencing the infamous Horse Armor DLC of Oblivion.
Check out the game, it’s cheap, it’s for charity, and it damn well is more honest than most AAA games out there! Will you guys be picking up NotGTAV?
