The PC release of GTA V has been followed by a great deal of controversy over fan-made mods. We’ve discussed potential PC mods for GTA V many times in the past, and recently discussed rumors that Rockstar would try to stop modders. At the time, it seemed as though only GTA Online mods would be blocked, but since then we’ve heard contradictory things.
First, the modder who created the ENBseries reported that “Rockstar did everything to prevent modding of GTA5, so at this moment impossible to do anything via editing game files.”
However, other modders countered his claims, saying that while that particular person may be having problems with his mods, GTA V PC mods are definitely possible.
Since then, some modders have gained access to GTA V’s files, and a few single-player PC mods are already becoming available. It’s unclear if Rockstar will attempt to patch the game to stop these mods from working, but so far it looks as though the Grand Theft Auto modding community is free to act.
