GTA V Gets New RDR, LA Noire, Max Payne Inspired Content

For some time now, players have had the ability to put together their own missions in Grand Theft Auto Online, and share it with the community. Occasionally, some of these fan missions were put together so well, with such attention and so much effort, that they caught the eyes of the team at Rockstar, who would then promote these fan missions.

In this batch, Rockstar has collected a set of community made missions which were inspired by some of the other games the studio is responsible for. Namely, Red Dead Redemption, LA Noire and Max Payne 3.

First up, the Red Dead Redemption missions have players turn up the cowboy in four different jobs set in the desert area. You can either race through a canyon with the blazing sun at your back, show off your gun-slinging skills in a one on one revolver duel, nick some riches from rival gangs situated in desert settlements, or going in guns blazing on these very same gangsters (and nicking their riches, obviously). Naturally, all of this would be done with your character wearing a sweet and stylish cowboy hat.

Taking a step forward in time, we leave behind the wild wild west and step into the sombre, smoky embrace of the 40’s. The LA Noire missions have players race with vehicles reminiscent of the era, as well as setting the more inquisitive players on some unsolved cases near the most recognizable landmarks.

Last but not least, we have the missions inspired by Max Payne 3. Taking players to the seedier locations of Los Santos, these missions equip your character with a specific set of weapons to ensure that the fights are visceral, close up and personal. Seeking to outright re-create one of the missions from the source material, expect to visit a horse-track when playing these missions.

Rockstar has fully embraced community content with Grand Theft Auto V. Between modding, the Rockstar Editor and custom missions, the players of GTA V will surely keep the game alive for a damn long time.

What do you guys think of fan content? All-in, indifferent, or do you stick to the official stuff?

GTA 5 Shooting Mechanics Similar to Max Payne 3

Max Payne 3 has, in our humble opinion, some of the best shooting mechanics ever devised for a third person shooter. This is a very good thing considering it looks like Rockstar Games are using/taking inspiration from it (at least as a base) for the shooting/combat gameplay mechanics in Grand Theft Auto V.

Check out the video further below and you’ll see what we mean. It also makes sense because Rockstar are known for taking the best aspects/features/whatever from already existing games in their portfolio and using them in new titles (with tweaks and improvements as appropriate). We think it’s logical that GTA 5, which should be the epic game we think/hope/are preying for, is the cumulation of everything good Rockstar done so far.

In fact, not only does it look like elements of Max Payne 3 will exist in GTA V, but you could also say that the hunting and vast wilderness in GTA 5 are inspired by Red Dead Redemption and of course there are all the previous GTA games which will certainly help in terms of crafting the urban areas of Los Santos.

Anyway, we digress. The bottom line should be that if you liked the combat system in Max Payne 3, you will like the combat system in GTA 5. Enjoy the video!

No GTA 5 Until Next Year?

While this might not tell us the exact release date of Grand Theft Auto V, it might go some ways to giving us a time frame to work with.

HK6, from this site, apparently went to Future Shop (a Canadian retailer) to grab his copy of Max Payne 3 and was given the receipt below. As you can see, HK6 is now entitled to a $20 credit towards GTA 5, should he decide to purchase it.

With me so far? Well, if you keep on reading you’ll see that the offer is valid only between 1 February 2013 and 31 May 2013 – meaning that there is a very good chance that GTA 5 won’t be released before Febraury next year, and that it will be released no later than the end of May… also next year.

We sincerely hope it is the former date at the latest, and in any event are secretly hoping this piece of news is somehow wrong. A Christmas without GTA 5 would be very disappointing indeed!

$20 Discount on GTA 5, Winter 2012 Release Date?

It is a little hard to see, but the the latest Future Shop mailer (which is Canadian, btw) has some interesting surprises/information for fans of GTA 5 (and Max Payne 3).

Future Shop GTA 5

Firstly, if you’re considering ordering Max Payne 3 and will definitely be buying GTA 5 (so… all of you!), then if you do it through Future Shop (which is owned by Best Buy), you’ll get $20 off a copy of GTA 5 when it’s released.

Secondly, if you take a closer look at the image above, you’ll see Future Shop have GTA 5 listed for a “Winter 2012” release. In Canada, this is around the end of December (so lets call it the pre-Christmas period) through until March 2013. Of course we wouldn’t put any money on those dates being accurate, but a pre-Christmas launch would certainly be welcome!

By the way, Best Buy in the US (Future Shop’s parent company) are running a similar Max Payne 3 pre-order bonus for their customers, but from what I can tell it only entitles you to some free DLC. Don’t worry though, I’m sure there will be plenty of GTA 5 deals in the US  closer to launch time!
