Usually when you hear players discussing a graphics downgrade, it’s about a difference between early game footage and the final game that was released. This, however, is something unusual. Grand Theft Auto V’s latest patch was only intended to fix minor bugs and improve GTA Online’s stability, but something else came with it. Update 1.08 for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of GTA V downgraded the game’s graphics.
One user compiled a series of comparison shots demonstrating problems with parallax occlusion, popping, anisotropic filtering, and collisions. You can see them all in the video below.
While many of these changes are subtle enough to go unnoticed, the vehicle collisions particularly caught players’ attentions. Some people theorized it was a deliberate downgrade to improve frame rates, although no major frame rate issues had been noticed.
However, it now appears this was unintentional. Rockstar Support addressed the issue and said a fix is underway. So far, a new patch has solved the popping and collision issues, but the other problems remain.
