Today, Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is on its way to the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld system. Chinatown Wars previously released on the Nintendo DS and became one of the best-received handheld games ever. The new version will include improved graphics, new story missions, and features built for the PSP.
In Chinatown Wars, you play as Huang Lee, who goes to Liberty City after his father’s death. Once there, he becomes embroiled in a mystery surrounding the Triad criminal organization.
The game was developed by Rockstar Leeds alongside Rockstar North, the studio responsible for the Grand Theft Auto series. Rockstar founder Sam Houser described Chinatown Wars as “a rich, fast-paced, and incredibly addictive entry into the series,” and praised Rockstar Leeds’s skill at creating such an innovative handheld game. He is pleased to be able to bring the game to a new audience.
Jack Tretton, the President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, is also happy to see Chinatown Wars on a PlayStation system, as Grand Theft Auto “has been an enormous part of the success of PlayStation platforms.”
Chinatown Wars will be available for the PSP in North America and Europe this fall, as both a UMD retail copy and a digital PlayStation Network download.
