A Brief History of PC Cheats for GTA V

While PC players could only join in a few months ago, GTA V’s desktop version was well worth the wait. The game looks best by far on PCs, and has a few other advantages over the console versions. The widely popular Rockstar Editor, an in-built gameplay capture and video editing software, is currently only available on the PC version of the game, and it’s more or less a weekly occurrence that we report on a video made with the software making the rounds on the web by virtue of comedic value. The other advantage PC players can enjoy over their console compatriots is the use of mods in the single player portion of the game, allowing them the change, remove and add features, items, vehicles and abilities.

Just like with the other platforms, the characteristic Rockstar joke cheats appear in the PC version of GTA V as well. The GTA franchise, in essence, is more comedy than anything else. It derives its humor from the real world, and delivers a satirical social commentary which relies on irony and warped stereotypes. At least, it mainly derives its humor from this. Cheats have always been an integral part of the GTA experience. These aren’t just there to help you through a particularly though portion of the game, or to give you invulnerability to mess around with no restraint.

Well, sure, they do all that too, but the main idea behind cheats in GTA V is to give players even more freedom. Now, no game has given players nearly as much freedom as GTA V has. The visuals may be beast, but it isn’t the pretty graphics that had popular news outlets calling this game the first truly next-gen game. Sure, it wasn’t the cheats either, but they played their part.

These cheats give players an additional layer of control over how their game plays, feels and looks. The various cheats can be categorised by target. Some cheats affect your character, some affect the world, and others allow you to spawn in items and vehicles.

If you think that the extent of mayhem and insanity you can cause in GTA V without resorting to making use of cheats just isn’t enough, then you’re most like a psychopath (joking), and are probably hurting for some explosive or incendiary ammunition (not joking). You can also temporarily make yourself invulnerable is you are in a sticky situation with the cops. Also, if you dislike the taste of alcohol, or simply can’t afford booze after buying a 10 mil jet, then you can toggle drunk mode to your leisure. Hangover-free guaranteed!

If you have larger ambitions, like changing the world, these cheats have you covered. Be it fantasies of being a weather god and summoning storms or floods on a whim, negating gravity or slowing time, these cheats will give you power over all of Los Santos.

Other than these cheats, you can spawn vehicles and items, as mentioned previously. Now, some of you may notice the apparent lack of a money cheat. That’s no error, there really isn’t one in GTA V. The reason for this is quite simple – the singleplayer stock market and the GTA Online stock market is one and the same, so the lack of a money cheat is due to balance concerns. You can, however, check out our tips on making a quick buck in GTA V. Take heed that these cheats only work in single player, any cheating and modding in GTA Online results in a ban, and with Rockstar’s recent crackdown on cheats screwing over honest modders, the trouble is two fold, so don’t go breaking them rules!
